Baskets are used in every culture. Every basket, everywhere, is still made by hand. So I figured I wanted to at least make one basket in my life. Here's the story.
I love the integration of your life and your stories, Jessica. Also, I have heard of the North House folk school! I get their catalog! I have always imagined taking a class either there or at the John C Campbell folk school in North Carolina. But you didn’t just imagine; you went out and did it! I admire you.💚
Thank you Don. I feel very seen by you and that means a hell of a lot. It gives me great hope to know that friendships can form and be nurtured online, though I’d love to meet you in person one day! Maybe in a class at a folk school!!!
Same, Jessica. I was just telling my wife about your basket (she drew the "spider" animal card this morning, which means "weaving") and I said that I think she would like you!
No, it's Jamie Sams & David Carson. Jennifer likes it. I've always thought the commentary is poorly written and cheesy, so I would welcome a recommendation. It would make a great gift for my wife!
Thanks, Jessica. 💚 So, what do you keep in your basket?
One of these days I'll do an essay on craft and working with one's hands. I've always loved seeing books on the subject, to know that others have not taken the subject for granted (like I did most of my life, coming from a working-with-hands family).
I love this! My mother was a big Appalachian basket maker and she got us kids into in (well, we were grown by then). Ever since reading the chapter in "Braiding Sweetgrass," I've been eager to take a workshop like this one. I'm so glad to know about it. Someday .. .. .
I have always loved your projects. I just spent the last several hours cleaning a bookcase in our study. We need to clear the room to get it repainted after the break in the water line leading outside. I found a project from your childhood. You gave me a glass jar filled with a stuffed cloth "worm" with some little paper books inside. We are trying to move toward downsizing, and it is impossible to know what to do with this kind of treasure. Maybe I need one of your baskets?
Time is such a curious thing, moving at times slow and at others so incredibly fast. This sentence really set the tone of that quickening spring beckons as we thaw from winter's slow invitations..."as the buds burst into a riot of blooms." Deeply inspiring piece on several levels. And now I'm inspired to make a basket some day!

The teacher, who you should look up, April Stone, has a spider tattooed on her wrist 😊. Is it the Kim Krans deck?

I highly recommend the Animal Spirit deck from Kim Krans 🥰

A beautiful and truthful outlook. And some beautiful baskets 🧺 to go with!
Thank you! It was such a beautiful journey and I came home with my basket full 🥰

I love that! You have always been a book worm! Take a photo and then throw it away is my recommendation, but keep reading lots of books. 📚

Thank you! It makes me so happy when someone feels inspired by a little thing I’ve written, and then takes the time to let me know. 🙏
