This is an incredible story that you have never told me before. Maybe that is for the better. I am glad you had these travels and have such good memories of them.
It is interesting how our memories select some things from our travels for "safe" storage. I suspect you are correct that they involve multiple senses.
I would like to go back and see for myself. One thing that seems to have changed is that the tourism infrastructure of Morocco has grown. Especially since 1974!
I would love to go back to Morocco! So many fascinating experiences, interesting people, fantastic food. There was a wonderful almond market in Fez, so many different almonds, and the scent perfumed the whole street!
This was transporting! When I think of the risks I took traveling at that age ~ !! So many delightful turns of phrase, like this one: "we got where we were going thanks to the export value of Valencia oranges." 😊 Thanks for the mention, and for participating in the interviews!

Thank you for the mention, Jessica--so much beautiful language in this piece! I also studied abroad in France and visited Sevilla and Morocco (just Marrakesh) while I was there :)
Thank you! I was at the university in Aix-en-Provence. I went to visit last year with my kids for a nostalgia tour. Lovely place. Where were you at University?
Beautiful writing Jessica. Lots of wonderful descriptions of scents and the worlds you discovered in Morocco and Spain in 1996
Thank you!

Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. I really like this idea - Crumbs of memories tucked away for safe storage. Thanks dad!
I was in Fez in 1974. The tanneries never change, apparently.
